START-UP @ SINGAPORE 2008 YOUTH BOOT CAMP

Start-Up@Singapore (S@S) brought together some 80 handpicked students from colleges and polytechnics across Singapore to teach them the fundamentals required to start their own businesses. Model along the lines of S@S’ highly successful, two-day Semifinalist Boot Camp, the Youth Boot Camp was distinguishable by its novel, hands-on and highly interactive workshops.

KEYS (KINDLING EDUCATION YIELDING)

In Ngee Ann Polytechnic, as many as 3 out of every class of 20 is in need of financial help. This translates to close to 2000 of the student population. Although there are some bursaries supporting these students, there are still a substantial number of needy students of about 300-400 without any form of financial assistance. Some students work part time, while juggling with the heavy workload of their studies. This project won the Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes team merit award.

TURNING POINT

A group of student volunteers (inclusive of me) went to Turning Point- A drug rehabilitation school where they help females by teaching them simple skills to help them integrate back to the society. I and 7 other NGEE ANN POLYTECHNIC students went there to teach them Principle of Account. We believe that Principle of Account is important in their resumes when they go and look for jobs in the future.

REFRESHING CAMPUS RUN

In collaboration with Health Promotion Board (HPB). This event was organized to increase awareness on the harmful effects of smoking. This was a purely student initiated project. The run was held in NGEE ANN POLYTECHNIC stadium. Running was chosen as the activity because we felt that running was a fun and easy sport which everyone can participate in it. It could reach to all age group and both gender.
